Fernando,
was born and raised in San Diego to a family rich in musical
diversity, so from a young age he has always been exposed to most
genres of music. Fernando had an attraction to the rhythm section
in music, so at the age of 11, he started picking up the drums.
During this time he taught himself the drums and began playing
with many different local musicians. In high school Fernando
realized he wanted to make playing music his life rather than just
a hobby, so he joined the school drumline, learned proper
technique, and learned how to play many different styles of music,
which has brought him to where he is today. Fernando has
studied with drumming greats such as Dave Weckl, Horacio“ El
Negro” Hernandez, Steve Smith, and more. He has played
with many local professional jazz musicians, and he records
frequently at EarthBound Recording studios. Currently Fernando
performs regularly with the Chase Morrin Trio, the Karla Irish Jazz Trio, the
Southwestern College Afro-Cuban jazz Ensemble and the MiraCosta
College Latin Jazz Orchestra. Fernando is 19 and just
graduated Eastlake high school. He is attending South
Western College this year.
